Josh Minott

22-Year-Old ForwardF
Boston Celtics
2024 Fantasy Outlook
Minott is set to enter his third season with the Timberwolves, but if his involvement across the first two years in the league are of any indication, he shouldn't have a prominent role in Minnesota's rotation. Minott made 32 appearances off the bench in the 2023-24 regular season, and while that was a marked improvement compared to the 15 games in which he featured in as a rookie, Minott only averaged 2.8 minutes per game in his second year in The Association. Minott's role is not expected to increase in 2024-25, so fantasy managers shouldn't consider drafting him -- not even in the deepest dynasty formats. Read Past Outlooks

Personal Bio/PreCareer Summary

Joshua Robert Tyler Minott was born Nov. 25, 2002 and raised in Boca Raton, Florida. For high school, Minott attended Saint Andrew's School in Boca Raton, where as a junior, he helped the basketball team win its first Class 3A state championship. Minott also played for the Jamaican national team at the 2019 Centrobasket Under-17 Championship in Puerto Rico. As a high school senior (2020-21), Minott was named the Palm Beach County Class 5A-1A Player of the Year by the Sun-Sentinel after delivering 23.1 points and 8.3 rebounds per game. In 2021, as the 29th-best prospect in the nation, per 247Sports, Minott committed to the University of Memphis. As a Tiger, Minott was named to the 2021-22 AAC All-Freshman Team. In March of 2022, he declared himself eligible for the NBA Draft. Minott was then picked by the Hornets with the 45th overall pick, but was immediately traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves. Gets two-year deal with Boston
FBoston Celtics
July 1, 2025
Minott agreed to a two-year, $5 million contract with the Celtics on Tuesday, Shams Charania of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
The Timberwolves declined Minott's $2.19 million team option for 2025-26 ahead of free agency, but he'll get a mild bump in pay as he moves on to the Celtics. According to Michael Scotto of USA Today, the second season of the deal is a team option. After entering the league in 2022 as a second-round pick, Minott averaged just 2.3 points and 1.0 rebounds in 5.0 minutes per contest across 93 regular-season appearances with Minnesota over the last three seasons, but the 6-foot-8 forward turned in excellent production at the G League level in 2022-23 and 2023-24 and makes for a worthwhile flier for the Celtics. Though he may find himself outside of the rotation to begin his time in Boston, Minott should have a better chance at earning minutes with his new team than he did in Minnesota, especially with star forward Jayson Tatum (Achilles) likely to miss most of the 2025-26 season.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2023
2022
Minott appeared in only 15 games during his rookie season, averaging 3.1 points and 1.7 rebounds in 6.4 minutes per game. Given he is buried on the depth chart, there is no reason to think his role will increase during the 2023-24 season. He remains a raw prospect, requiring time to prepare his body and mind for the rigors of an NBA season. Outside of dynasty formats, there is no reason to consider Minott as a draftable player.
A one-and-done at Memphis, Minott was selected with the No. 45 pick in the 2022 Draft and dealt to the Timberwolves. As a freshman, the 6-foot-9, 196-pound forward averaged 6.6 points, 3.8 rebounds, 0.9 assists and 1.5 combined steals-plus-blocks in 14.5 minutes. Right now, Minott is more potential than production. He's an elite athlete, which has gotten him this far, but he's not a shooter, can't really handle the ball and is too skinny to be imposing defensively. So expect time in the G League for Minott, who seemingly needs to spend more time on a basketball court with some professional direction and skill development to turn into a rotation player in the NBA.

Eye-catching numbers
FMinnesota Timberwolves
July 20, 2023
Minott averaged 16.4 points on 46.4 percent shooting from the field, 5.6 rebounds, 1.0 assists and 2.4 steals-plus-blocks per game in five Summer League starts for the Timberwolves.
ANALYSIS
Minott has rare upside. His fluidity and movement skills at his size make him a unicorn-esque player. However, the two blemishes of Minott's Summer League were three-point shooting and overall shot selection. He hit just 29.2 percent of 2.9 threes per game in the G League last season, and he shot 2-for-16 at Summer League. The jumper is raw, but there's a lot to like.
