2024 Fantasy Outlook
Holiday's summer of 2023 journey from Milwaukee to Portland to Boston led to the point guard's second NBA championship. But it also resulted in Holiday taking a step back in most statistical categories as he deferred to Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Kristaps Porzingis and even Derrick White. Holiday's 12.5 points per game were a career low outside of his 2009-10 rookie season. And while his rebounds and blocks perked up, he saw a significant decline in assists and steals per game. This is important, because Boston's roster is essentially the same for the 2024-25 season. Holiday's role should go unchanged, with him often hunting corner threes while Tatum, Brown and Porzingis do more to create their own shot. In fact, White was frequently Boston's offensive point guard last year, while Holiday was in more of a 3-and-D wing role. But don't expect Holiday's minutes to decline. He averaged 32.8 minutes a game as a Celtic and has averaged 33.9 minutes per contest over the past seven seasons. Entering his age-34 season, expect Holiday's second year in Boston to look very much like his first season as a Celtic. Read Past Outlooks

Dealt to Portland
Holiday was traded from the Celtics to the Trail Blazers on Monday in exchange for Anfernee Simons (forearm) and two second-round draft picks, Shams Charania of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
There was rumored to be plenty of interest for Holiday heading into the offseason, and the Celtics evidently felt strong enough about the trade package to pull the trigger on this deal. The UCLA product, known more recently for his defensive prowess at this stage in his career, averaged 11.1 points, 4.3 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 1.1 steals over 62 regular-season games for Boston this past season and should step in as Portland's starting point guard while also serving as a strong mentor to Scoot Henderson (head) and the rest of the backcourt.

Holiday has been one of the most underrated players in the NBA throughout his 14-year career, but the point guard continues to be a darling in fantasy. Holiday averaged 19.3 points, 5.1 rebounds, 7.4 assists and 1.2 steals per game in yet another stellar season. What's also interesting is that Holiday set career highs in free-throw percentage (85.9), rebounds (5.4) and three-pointers made (2.4). Those are massive bumps to an already impressive fantasy resume. That gives him one of the highest floors among anyone in fantasy, but Holiday just turned 33 years old this summer. This is right around when most point guards see their production fall off, but Jrue's stat-stuffing ways give him a great baseline that many other veteran guards can't match. Holiday was dealt to the Trail Blazers this offseason in the deal that landed Damian Lillard in Milwaukee, and the former was quickly flipped to Boston. Holiday will probably handle the same role Marcus Smart held during his tenure with the Celtics, which means Holiday's offensive usage may take a hit. However, Holiday's defensive prowess should help him maintain solid fantasy production during his first year in Boston.
