Wooten was born Apr. 17, 1998 in Stockton, California. He originally attended Stagg High School before transferring to Manteca High School for his junior and senior years. During his senior year, he averaged 13.6 points, 10.9 rebounds and 4.0 blocks per game. The four-star recruit went on to play at Oregon. There, he was twice named to the Pac-12 All-Defensive Team. He blocked 92 shots as a freshman, which was the third-most in a single season by any Oregon player. Wooten attended Oregon for two seasons. As a freshman, he blocked 92 shots (2.6 per game), which ranked third-most in a single season by any Oregon player. That resulted in him being named to the Pac-12 All-Defensive Team. He also averaged 6.4 points and 4.5 rebounds in 19.8 minutes. As a sophomore, Wooten averaged 6.3 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.2 blocks in 24.0 minutes. He was again voted to the Pac-12 All-Defensive Team. Arguably his best collegiate performance was Nov. 17, 2017 against Alabama State. In the win, Wooten posted 19 points (7-11 FG, 5-5 FT), 13 rebounds, five blocks and one steal in 23 minutes.
