Personal Bio/PreCareer Summary

Marial Makur Shayok was born in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, to Markur and Hellena Shayok. His father, Markur, played college basketball at the University of Dayton. Marial Shayok has four siblings, two of whom also played college hoops. He began playing basketball at the age of seven and continued at St. Patrick's High School in Ottawa. After two years at St. Patrick's, Shayok transferred to Blair Academy in Blairstown, New Jersey. He averaged 15.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists as a senior, earning recognition as New Jersey Prep Player of the Year. Shayok also represented Canada at the 2012 U17 World Championships and in the 2012 Nike Global Challenge. As a freshman, he averaged 3.8 points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.0 assists in 14.6 minutes. As a sophomore, he averaged 4.3 points, 1.9 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 15.0 minutes. As a junior, he averaged 8.9 points and 2.4 rebounds across 20.6 minutes. Following his junior season, he transferred to Iowa State. Due to NCAA transfer rules, he had to take the 2017-18 season off before taking the court for his new team. In 2018-19 as a senior, he averaged 18.7 points on 13.6 shots per game, while adding 4.9 rebounds and 2.0 assists per contest across 32.9 minutes. Those numbers fueled an All-Big 12 First Team selection. He was selected with the 54th pick in the 2019 NBA Draft by the Philadelphia 76ers.

Shayok will miss the remainder of the 2022-23 G League season due to a pelvis injury, per a release from the team.
ANALYSIS
Shayok was placed on the injured list by Maine earlier in the week, and it appears that is due to a season-ending pelvis issue. The G League Celtics added Anthony Tarke from the available player pool with the roster spot opened by Shayok's opening.
