Bonner announced his retirement from professional basketball Friday, Jeff McDonald of the San Antonio Express-News reports.
				  ANALYSIS
Bonner's 10-year tenure with the Spurs came to an end this past offseason, and after failing to catch on with another team over the summer and the first few months of the 2016-17 campaign, he decided to call it a career. The 36-year-old, who spent his first two seasons in the league with the Raptors, was a 41.4 percent shooter from three-point range over 12 NBA seasons and won two NBA championships during his time with the Spurs. He'll remain with the Spurs organization in a broadcasting role as he transitions to a new line of work.

San Antonio has one of the deepest frontcourts in the league and will have their work cut out balancing the minutes between LaMarcus Aldridge, Tim Duncan, David West, Boris Diaw, and in certain circumstances -- Matt Bonner. Bonner has been loyal to the Spurs organization and visa versa, playing nine of his 11 seasons in San Antonio. While the 35-year-old center isn't getting any younger, he still provides valuable spot minutes off the bench. Last season, he averaged 3.7 points, 1.6 rebounds, 0.7 assists, 0.2 blocks, and 0.1 steals in 13 minutes per contest through 72 games. He even provided 19 spot starts for the team as coach Gregg Popovich likes to rest his starters in order to keep them healthier for the playoffs. Because the frontcourt is an ever-welcome log jam of high-caliber talent, it is unlikely that Bonner will see an increase in playing time from last season. Regardless of who is playing ahead of him, Bonner's familiarity with the Spurs system and his ability to shoot from the perimeter as a big will most likely mean that he will still see at least see a few minutes of game action rather frequently.
