A lethal marksman from distance over his last four seasons at multiple levels, Thomas joined the Raptors this offseason on a three-year, $4.2 million contract after spending his first two professional campaigns in Spain. The 25-year-old became a starter beginning with his junior year at Iowa State back in the 2015-16 campaign, which coincided with his blossoming as a three-point shooter. Thomas finished his college career with success rates of 43.2 (as a junior) and 44.5 percent (as a senior) from distance. He followed that up by draining 45.9 and 48.5 percent of his shots from behind the arc in his pair of overseas campaigns, while also shooting a lights-out 51.1 percent overall last season. Having allowed both Danny Green and Delon Wright to depart this summer via free agency and trade, respectively, the Raptors will hope to make up for their absences with Thomas, who profiles as the likely first or second shooting guard off the bench behind projected starter Norman Powell. That could add up to a solid, consistent allotment of playing time for Thomas against second-unit defenders, which in turn could lead to some impressive per-minute contributions in offensive categories if he proves capable of replicating the elite level of accuracy he particularly demonstrated in Spain.
