Personal Bio/PreCareer Summary

Melvin Jamon Frazier Jr. was born in New Orleans, Louisiana in 1996. He is the son of Natasha Dorsey. Frazier played his high school ball at L.W. Wiggins HS in Marrero, Louisiana. Frazier averaged 17.3 points per game during his senior season, leading the Hurricanes to the Class 5A state semifinals. The 6-foot-6 wing was the 2014-15 NOLA.com/Times-Picayune Preseason Player of the Year. He choose to stay in his hometown New Orleans to play college ball at Tulane, turning down offers from Arkansas, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State. He saved the best for last, getting named the 2018 American Athletic Conference Most Improved Player of the Year. He also garnered All-AAC Second Team honors for the 2017-18 season. Statistically, Frazier's junior year saw career highs in scoring (15.9 PPG), rebounding (5.6 RPG) and assists (2.9 APG). He also led the AAC in both total steals (65) field-goal percentage (.556) that same season. Frazier entered the 2018 NBA Draft and was selected in the second round (35th overall) by the Orlando Magic.

ANALYSIS
Despite shooting only 31.1 percent on 3.4 three-point attempts per contest on the season, Frazier lit it up from downtown in Tuesday's blowout win. However, Frazier coughed up six turnovers without recording a single assist.

Frazier split time between the Iowa Wolves and Oklahoma City Blue last year, but following the conclusion of the G League season, he signed a two-way deal with the Thunder and appeared in three NBA contests. During that stretch, the 2018 second-round pick averaged 10.7 points and 4.3 rebounds across 40.0 minutes per game. However, he shot just 27.1 percent from the field and went 1-for-21 from three. The 26-year-old appeared in 19 games for the Magic during the 2019-20 season and averaged 2.1 points in 6.6 minutes - his last NBA action before joining Oklahoma City a year ago. Frazier remains a free agent heading into September, but he'll likely land at least a G League contract before the regular season begins in October. Across 35 G League contests last season, the 25-year-old averaged 13.7 points, 6.3 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.5 steals across 33.7 minutes. He shot 46.6 percent from the field (10.7 attempts per game) and 34.3 percent from three (4.9 attempts).
The 35th pick in this year’s draft, Frazier spent three seasons at Tulane, starting 58 of his final 60 appearances. During junior campaign, the wing posted 15.9 points per game on an impressive 55.6 percent from the field and 38.5 percent from beyond the arc. He also chipped in 5.6 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 2.1 steals per tilt, helping him win the ACC Most Improved Player award and be named to the All-ACC Second Team. However, during four summer league contests, Frazier struggled to score, shooting 28.6 percent from the field for 5.5 points per game. On a positive note, his impressive defense remained in play, as he averaged 1.5 steals across 24.7 minutes. Frazier will presumably have to battle for minutes on the wing during his rookie campaign due to the presence of Evan Fournier, Jonathon Simmons, Jonathan Isaac, Terrence Ross and Wesley Iwundu.
