                2025 Fantasy Outlook

The No. 27 overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, Shannon wasn't afforded many opportunities in Minnesota. He ended up with just 32 regular-season appearances to his name with averages of 4.3 points, 1.5 rebounds and 1.0 assists while shooting 48.2 percent from the field and 35.5 percent from long range in 10.6 minutes per game. The Timberwolves had a quiet offseason, but they did lose a key rotation piece in Nickeil Alexander-Walker. Rob Dillingham and Shannon are two candidates to soak up some of those. Shannon certainly did his part during the Summer League, putting up 22.7 points, 6.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists, 3.3 three-pointers and 1.7 steals in three appearances. Shannon is currently penciled in as the backup small forward behind Jaden McDaniels, and he's typically a high-minute player for the Timberwolves. Shannon does have some intrigue, but he's only on the radar in deeper formats until his path to minutes becomes a bit clearer. Logs diverse line from bench
Shannon notched 10 points (4-7 FG, 2-2 3Pt), five rebounds, five assists and one steal over 25 minutes during Wednesday's 118-114 victory over the Trail Blazers.
				  ANALYSIS
Shannon's results weren't surprising considering his excellent returns during Summer League and his frequent usage in the preseason. While the 2024 first-round pick's numbers are encouraging, he's still one or two injuries away from making a significant fantasy impact.

2024 Fantasy Outlook

After three seasons at Texas Tech, Shannon transferred to Illinois and became a star. In 2023-24, the 6-foot-6 guard averaged 23.0 points (48/36/80 shooting splits), 4.0 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.0 steals and 0.9 blocks, landing First-Team All-Big Ten and Third-Team All-American honors. Shannon also led the Illini to a Big Ten Tournament championship, earning the Most Outstanding Player award. However, the season was clouded by legal trouble. In December of 2023, Shannon was charged with two felonies and suspended indefinitely by Illinois. Ultimately, he finished his final collegiate season after being granted a restraining order and was found not guilty of the charges just a few weeks before the 2024 NBA Draft. The legal trouble and being one of the oldest prospects in the 2024 class led to Shannon falling on draft day. He was selected by Minnesota with the 27th overall pick and joins a loaded backcourt. Mike Conley and Anthony Edwards will start, while Donte DiVincenzo and Nickeil Alexander-Walker will be the primary backups. Minnesota also signed Joe Ingles in free agency and drafted Rob Dillingham 19 picks ahead of Shannon. Shannon's path to NBA minutes is too crowded to make him worthy of a roster spot in standard leagues, but his offensive upside should have fantasy managers' interest if he's ever given a 20-minute role.

				  More opportunities coming
Minnesota coach Chris Finch said Monday that he's expecting Shannon to absorb most of Nickeil Alexander-Walker's minutes, Jace Frederick of the Pioneer Press reports.
				  ANALYSIS
"We feel TJ can bring us a lot of things. We feel like he'll drive winning, too." Finch said. "What those lineup combinations work out to be exactly, we're not 100 percent sure." After seeing limited minutes as a rookie in 2024-25, Shannon is picking up steam to be the eighth man in Minnesota's rotation behind Donte DiVincenzo and Naz Reid. In his first preseason game Saturday against Denver, Shannon had 11 points, four rebounds and four assists in 21 minutes.
