Zach Norvell

Zachary Norvell Jr. was born in Chicago, Illinois, to Tonja Hall and Zachary Norvell. His father played college basketball at Northeastern Illinois and New Mexico and later became a high-school coach. Norvell Jr. was a talented baseball player growing up but ultimately decided to turn his attention to basketball. He attended high school at Simeon Career Academy. As a senior, he averaged 18 points, eight rebounds and four assists per game, leading Simeon to a 30-4 record. He redshirted his freshman season as he recovered from leg surgery that was performed prior to his arrival at Gonzaga. In his redshirt freshman campaign, Norvell posted per-game averages of 12.7 points, 3.9 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.1 steals. He was named the WCC Newcomer of the Year and earned a spot on the WCC All-Freshman Team. He then broke out in the NCAA Tournament as Gonzanga advanced to the Sweet 16. In the second round of the Tournament, Norvell posted career highs with 28 points and 12 rebounds in a victory over Ohio State. After bowing out to Florida State in the next round, Norvell returned the following season and improved upon his already-solid numbers. In his sophomore campaign, he averaged 14.9 points, 4.3 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 1.3 steals. Norvell was recognized for his outstanding season with a selection to the WCC All-Conference First Team. In the NCAA Tournament, Gonzaga advanced to the Elite Eight. In four tournament games, Norvell averaged 11.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists. He declared for the 2019 NBA Draft following the season.
