Returning to majors with Washington
Chafin agreed Thursday with the Nationals on a one-year, major-league contract, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Chafin had a May 1 opt-out date of his minor-league contract with the Tigers, and since a promotion to the big club wasn't imminent, Detroit opted to release him Wednesday. The lefty quickly found a new home on a big-league deal and will provide the Nationals with an experienced left-handed option out of the bullpen. Chafin turned in a 2.13 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 17:4 K:BB in 12.2 innings with Triple-A Toledo before Detroit released him.
