The Mets have selected Walters with the 91st overall pick in the 2020 first-year player draft.
ANALYSIS
Set to turn 23 years old in December, Walters is one of the oldest prospects to come off the board thus far in the draft. After a standout season in the JUCO ranks in 2018 in which he posted a monstrous 1.169 OPS over 163 at-bats, Walters took a step back upon moving back to the Division I ranks with San Diego State, slashing .271/.333/.356 over 16 games this spring. The shortstop may be willing to accept a below-slot deal to join the Mets, thereby freeing the organization to spend up on other draft prospects.
