The Phillies have selected Martin with the 87th overall pick in the 2020 first-year player draft.
ANALYSISIf Martin, a no-doubt shortstop from Arkansas, projected to be a plus hitter, he might have been the No. 2 overall pick in this draft. His other four tools (power, run, arm, glove) are all plus, and his speed might be a 70-grade tool. It's a testament to how much work he has to do as a hitter that he slid this far in the draft. For his college career, he has a 24.1 percent strikeout rate, and his 31 percent strikeout rate in 15 games as a junior is a gigantic red flag. It's possible he could be a
Rougned Odor type of offensive player who provides plus defense at shortstop, but that's basically his ceiling, and he may not even hit well enough to get past Double-A.
