Desme has decided to retire from baseball and enter the priesthood,
FoxSports.com reports.
ANALYSIS
This decision comes as a very unexpected surprise after Desme hit .315/.413/.667 with 11 homers and 27 RBI in 27 Arizona Fall League games on the heels of a .288/.365/.568 combined line with 31 homers, 89 RBI and 40 steals between Low-A Midland and High-A Stockton. Somewhere, A's general manager Billy Beane has thrown furniture through drywall after hearing about Desme's decision. The 23-year-old was set to begin the 2010 season at Double-A with the potential for a late-season callup to Oakland.
