The Cubs have selected Stinnett with the 45th overall pick of the 2014 first-year player draft.
ANALYSIS
A two-way player until his junior season, Stinnett has been able to touch 97 mph with his fastball after making the permanent switch to pitching (he sits in the mid-90s). In addition to inducing grounders with his fastball, Stinnett showed a quality slider that induces swings and misses from hitters on both sides of the plate. The Cubs will likely attempt to develop him as a starter, but if he fails to refine a changeup, he projects as a quality late-inning reliever.
