The Athletics placed Estes on the 15-day injured list Wednesday due to a herniated disc in his lower back.
Analysis
Estes performed well Sunday during his return to the majors, firing four shutout innings of relief while allowing one hit and striking out one batter in a loss to the Mariners. After emerging from that appearance with a herniated disc, however, Estes won't be eligible to rejoin the Athletics until Sept. 9. Brady Basso was recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas to replace Estes on the 26-man active roster.
