The Rangers
transferred Gray (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Friday.
Analysis
After Gray was placed on the IL on Aug. 17 due to right shoulder nerve irritation, president of baseball operations Chris Young left the door open for the right-hander to pitch again in 2025, but Gray's move to the 60-day IL spells an official end to his season. Shortly after Gray was shut down, the Rangers expressed optimism that his symptoms were consistent with the neurologic version of thoracic outlet syndrome rather than the more significant vascular version. Assuming that's the case, the 34-year-old Gray should be able to resume his career in 2026, if the impending free agent wants to continue pitching. After fracturing his right forearm in spring training, Gray didn't make his 2025 debut with the Rangers until July 23 and compiled a 7.71 ERA and 1.50 WHIP in 14 innings over six appearances before the shoulder issue cropped up.
