Alonso has defected from Cuba where he was hitting .299/.436/.494 with four home runs in 110 plate appearances in his rookie season in the Serie Nacional at age 19, Baseball America reports.
ANALYSIS
Alonso, a 6-3, 200-pound outfielder and first baseman, doesn't have much of a track record in the Serie Nacional or international play, so we'll need to see what scouts say about his promise when he settles into his new home. He may not sign with a MLB team until 2016 as he'll need to secure residency in another country and be declared free to sign with a MLB team by the U.S. government.
