Olmstead signed a minor-league contract with Boston, according to Chris Cotillo of MLB Daily Dish
. He was most recently with the Milwaukee organization, but was released earlier this week.
Olmstead is rejoining an organization he pitched for back in 2011 and 2012. He pitched well for High-A Salem and Double-A Portland, but the Red Sox did not add him to the 40-man roster late in 2012, exposing him to the free market. The 6-foot-7 Olmstead was unable to repeat his statistical success at Triple-A Nashville last season, but he did average a strikeout per inning.
