The Marlins
placed Weathers on the 60-day injured list Monday due to a left lat strain.
ANALYSISWeathers flew back to Miami on Monday to be evaluated after he experienced shoulder discomfort coming out of his most recent start Saturday against the Rays. Further tests revealed a lat strain, and the Marlins made the quick decision to place the 25-year-old southpaw on the 60-day IL rather than the 15-day IL. As a result of the transaction, Weathers won't be eligible to resume pitching for the Marlins until at least mid-August. Weathers is now on the IL for the second time this season, after he missed the first six weeks of the campaign while recovering from a left forearm injury. In a corresponding move, the Marlins activated
Eury Perez (elbow) from the 60-day IL ahead of his 2025 MLB debut Monday against the Pirates.
