Westmoreland has announced his retirement, the
Boston Globe reports.

After two surgeries for a cavernous malformation on his brain, the soon-to-be 23-year-old opted to retire from professional baseball and pursue his college degree with the hope of working in baseball down the road. The former sixth-round pick was once considered the top prospect in the Red Sox's organization.
