The Padres have selected Lemond with the 86th overall pick in the 2014 first-year player draft.
ANALYSIS
An ill-fated move into Rice's starting rotation in 2014 saw Lemond go down with elbow inflammation after five starts. The injury surely hurt the right-hander's draft stock, but Lemond, who was previously drafted by the Pirates in the 50th round in 2011, operated in the 92-96 mph range with his fastball before suffering the injury and also throws a nasty curveball that could be a plus pitch if he ever learns to command it.
