Cavaliers president of basketball operations Koby Altman said Monday that Rubio has been excused from training camp while the veteran point guard has paused his career to focus on mental health,
Chris Fedor of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSISAltman didn't offer up a timeline for Rubio to rejoin the Cavaliers, but with the start of the regular season just three weeks away, the 32-year-old doesn't look as though he'll be ready to join Cleveland for the early part of its schedule. At this stage, Altman said that no conversations between Rubio and the team have suggested that Rubio plans on retiring. Rubio, who signed with the Cavaliers last summer, has two years and $12.5 million remaining on his deal. With Rubio out of the picture,
Caris LeVert and
Ty Jerome could be poised for more opportunities to play point guard on the second unit.
