Set for thumb surgery

Thumb
April 28, 2020
Marquette coach Steve Wojciechowski said in a recent interview that McEwen will require offseason thumb surgery, Brian Hamilton of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
McEwen likely would have had the procedure immediately after the season ended in mid-March if not for the coronavirus pandemic preventing players from undergoing elective surgeries, but he should be able to go under the knife and return to full health by the time Marquette opens its 2020-21 season. As a junior this past season, McEwen averaged 9.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.2 three-pointers in 28.5 minutes per game, but he shot just 33.2 percent from the floor. In order to remain in contention for a NCAA tournament spot in 2020-21, Marquette will likely need McEwen to improve his efficiency while simultaneously increasing his usage as the Golden Eagles look to replace leading scorer Markus Howard.
