Brooks announced Thursday that he has committed to Mississippi State, joining the program as a transfer from North Carolina, Jeff Borzello of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Given that Brooks' father is on the Bulldogs' coaching staff, Mississippi State was always seen as a likely landing spot when the 6-foot-10 big man entered the portal April 9. After a huge junior season for the Tar Heels, Brooks took a step back in 2020-21, averaging 10.2 points and 6.9 rebounds in 27.9 minutes per game. He dealt with some ankle issues throughout parts of the season that may have contributed to his decline, but a healthy Brooks should be a major boon for Mississippi State heading into 2021-22. Expect him to slot into a starting role at power forward or center, with Brooks likely to serve as the Bulldogs' main scoring option out of the frontcourt.
