April 12, 2021
Gillespie (knee) announced Monday via his personal Twitter account that he will return to Villanova for a fifth season in 2021-22.
ANALYSIS
Gillespie will take advantage of the NCAA allowing players an extra year of eligibility due to COVID-19 pandemic. The 6-foot-3 guard had his senior season cut short by a knee injury, which prevented him from playing in Villanova's final five games. The reigning co-Big East Player of the Year should be back to full health ahead of the 2021-22 season, and his return provides a major lift to a Wildcats squad that should once again be one of the conference favorites. He averaged 14.0 points, 4.6 assists, 3.3 rebounds and 2.1 three-pointers in 33.4 minutes per game over his 20 appearances last season.
