Whitens committed to Michigan State on Tuesday, joining the Spartans as a preferred walk-on transfer from Western Michigan, Graham Couch of the Lansing State Journal reports.
ANALYSIS
As far as walk-on players go, Whitens is more accomplished than most. He was a full-time starter for Western Michigan both of the past two seasons and averaged 5.4 points and 3.5 rebounds in 23.4 minutes per game in 2020-21 while shooting 47.2 percent from the field. The 6-foot-4 guard will be able to compete right away with the Spartans and will retain two years of eligibility.
