Commits to UCLA

Johnson announced his commitment to UCLA on Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Johnson's expected enrollment at UCLA indicates he will use his remaining year of collegiate eligibility. The ex-USC alumnus is doing so by joining his old school's local rival. According to Shotgun Spratling of 247Sports.com, Johnson will be the defensive stopper UCLA's team has wanted since losing Jaylen Clark to the NBA. It makes sense, considering the ex-USC transfer is also a multi-time member of the Pac-12 All-Defensive Team, best indicated by his average of 2.2 steals across both seasons in which he earned the nominations. Having also averaged 10.9 points and 5.0 rebounds separately across a season, Johnson is capable of being more than a defender. According to Tracy Pierson of 247Sports.com, the junior may only be one season away from playing his way into the 2025 NBA Draft's first round, improving at a rate similar to Jaime Jaquez when he was the superstar of UCLA's 2022-23 team.
