2019 Tournament PreviewEfficient on both ends, the Hokies look poised to win their first NCAA Tournament game since 2007, and possibly advance to their first Sweet 16 since 1967. Offensively, Virginia Tech ranks 11th in the nation in efficiency and eighth in effective field-goal percentage, according to KenPom, and eighth in 3-point percentage at 39.4. Defensively, the Hokies are 25th in efficiency and 27th in turnover percentage, while imposing a grind-it-out tempo on opponents that ranks 337th. They're led by 6-10 junior forward Kerry Blackshear (14.7 ppg, 7.4 rpg), who had seven double-doubles in ACC play, and 6-5 sophomore guard Nickeil Alexander-Walker (16.6 ppg, 4.1 rpg, 4.0 apg), a likely lottery pick. The Hokies have little depth, going six deep, at best. The wild card could be senior point guard Justin Robinson (13.7 ppg, 5.2 apg), out since Jan. 30 with a foot injury. He hopes to return for the Tournament, and if so, he could play an integral role in leading Virginia Tech to uncharted tourney territory.
