Mason rushed seven times for 33 yards in the Roughriders' 40-17 loss to the Redblacks on Thursday.

After a Week 1 contest in which Jerome Messam served as the Riders' clear-cut lead back, Mason ended up equaling the veteran in carries while outgaining him by five rushing yards. Mason brings intriguing speed and elusiveness in space, but he figures to mostly play a change-of-pace role behind Messam on the majority of weeks. He'll look to build on his Week 2 performance in a Week 3 tilt against the Alouettes in Week 3.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Mason is listed as the backup running back for Friday's season opener against the Argonauts.

Mason will slot in behind starter Jerome Messam as the regular season gets underway. He has only been part of the squad for roughly two weeks, so it's unlikely he will have a major role right way. However, that could change as he gets more familiar in his new surroundings.

Mason has signed a one-year contract with Saskatchewan.

The former NFL running back is headed north of the border to join the CFL's Roughriders for the upcoming season. He last played professionally during the 2015 season but has been out of football since then, partly due to legal problems that led to multiple arrests over that time period. The former third-round pick out of Auburn averaged 3.8 yards per carry and reached the end zone five times in two seasons of work with the then-St. Louis Rams.
