Ismail Mahdi News: Starts in scrimmage Saturday

Mahdi was the starter in Arizona's scrimmage on Saturday, Justin Spears of Tucson.com reports.

Mahdi is expected to split carries with Kedrick Reescano in the backfield, but the fact that he started over the latter might be telling. Arizona opens its season against Hawaii on Aug. 30, so there's plenty of time to determine who will be the starter at running back in the first game of the regular season. Mahdi spent last season at Texas State, where he carried the ball 183 times for 991 yards and four touchdowns.
