Joey Aguilar News: In two-player race for starting job

Aguilar and Jake Merklinger appear to be the two quarterbacks still competing for the starting job under center, Pete Nakos of On3 reports.

During SEC Media Days, head coach Josh Heupel included freshman George MacIntyre among the candidates to claim the starting gig, but it appears he's working primarily with the third team during fall camp, likely dropping him out of the running for the starting gig. That leaves Aguilar and Merklinger as the two remaining candidates for the starting gig, and some clarity on the position will hopefully surface before the Vols take the field for the opener against Syracuse on Aug. 30.
