Reese Poffenbarger News: Loses QB competition

Poffenbarger has lost North Texas' quarterback competition to Drew Mestemakerhas, per Pete Thamel of ESPN.com.

Poffenbarger certainly had a fair chance to win the job, as he worked with the first-team offense at times in North Texas' fall camp. Still, he'll lose out to Mestemakerhas, the returnee who tossed for 462 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions as well as 87 rushing yards and a score. Poffenbarger figures to open the season as UNT's backup quarterback.
