O.J. Howard

One of the bigger surprises in all of pre-draft season was Howard returning to the Tide after putting on one of the greatest individual performances ever in a title game. After a relatively quiet junior campaign, Howard torched Clemson for 208 yards and two touchdowns on just five catches. Not only were those numbers eye-popping, but the accompanying film led people to believe that he could’ve been the top tight end taken in the 2016 draft. Regardless, Howard will be back in an Alabama uniform this season. While Howard’s title game heroics would lead one to believe he’ll be a key factor in the Tide offense, that’s truly no guarantee. Howard has been underutilized each of the past three seasons despite averaging well over 15 yards per reception in each campaign. When Howard is targeted, look out; he caught 80% of his 47 targets for 602 yards -- a 15.8 YPR mark backed up by an astounding 12.8 yards per target. Howard may be the best pro prospect at his position, but Alabama’s offense and its tendencies to not heavily target its tight ends limits his fantasy upside for this season relative to his actual talent.
