Orth and freshman Brandon McIlwain have been battling for the starting job for the entirety of fall camp, but it appears that head coach Will Muschamp may be tipping his hand and leaning towards starting the experienced player for the Gamecocks' season opener. Whether both Orth and McIlwain will split playing time Thursday remains to be seen, but Orth does look to have the inside track at starting for at least Week 1. A further update on South Carolina's quarterback situation may be available prior to kickoff, but Muschamp has been keeping the decision largely under wraps and certainly may not make any announcement prior to kick.
