Entering 2018 NFL Draft
January 10, 2018
Cain will forgo his senior season at Clemson and enter the 2018 NFL Draft, coach Dabo Swinney informed David Hale of ESPN.
ANALYSIS
Cain is a wideout whose production might not jump off the page, but he's also the type of receiver that has looked like a future NFL player since his freshman season in 2015. He caught 38 passes for 724 yards and nine touchdowns from Deshaun Watson as a sophomore before rounding things out with a 58-catch, 734-yard campaign in 2017. Cain (6-1, 190) doesn't appear to have burner-type speed on film, and yet he seems to always find a way to get separation and come down with the ball deep down the field. There is some background vetting that NFL teams will need to do as Cain did have disciplinary issues early in his Clemson career, but he didn't seem to have any red flags over the past two years. The combine will be pivotal for Cain in order to cement his status as a definite Day 2 prospect.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2017
2016
Deshaun Watson may be gone, but so are the 311 targets allotted to Mike Williams, Artavis Scott and Jordan Leggett from last year. Even with a smaller pie to divide between receivers, Clemson's depleted pass-catcher rotation and Cain's own standout talent should dictate a breakout season. Going from the No. 3 wide receiver to the No. 1 is a lot more pressure on Cain, but Cain is a former blue-chip recruit who finished his sophomore year with 9.5 yards per target and a touchdown on nearly 12 percent of his targets.
Long on talent, Cain seems to have an uphill battle ahead of him to match the 582 yards and five touchdowns he provided as a freshman. Cain was suspended from the team during its postseason run and spring practice, and though he has been reinstated, the safe assumption is he'll have to earn his way back into the team's receiving pecking order. That order includes veterans Mike Williams and Artavis Scott, tight end Jordan Leggett and promising prospects Hunter Renfroe, Ray-Ray McCloud and Trevion Thompson. His 17.1 yards per catch average show Cain's upside, but there may need to be some attrition through graduation before Cain becomes a breakout candidate.
