Matthews’ rushing totals decreased from a year ago, although he missed the final two games of the 2017 season due to a collarbone injury. He did showcase improvement in the passing game, hauling in 12 catches for 140 yards and a score out of the backfield. Matthews will return for the upcoming campaign at full strength and figures to serve as the No. 1 tailback, with Rashaad Boddie and Marvin Kinsey vying for touches behind Matthews on the depth chart. Colorado State ground out 194.6 rushing yards per game last year (ranked 35th in FBS), so Matthews appears to be in a favorable position. He should be leaned on heavily in the running game by the Rams as he attempts to record his first 1,000-yard season in his final year of eligibility.
