November 24, 2013
Smith carried the ball 12 times for 71 yards against Baylor on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Smith entered the game after starter Desmond Roland struggled. It remains to be seen who will get the carries at the outset of the Cowboy's next game against Oklahoma, but with the teams' running struggles this season, both running backs could have a short leash.

Past Fantasy Outlooks

2010
Smith has waited very patiently over the last three years behind Keith Toston, Kendall Hunter and Joseph Randle, posting highly efficient numbers all the while, and he's finally poised to inherit the starting role at Oklahoma State in 2013. With that role should come very big numbers, and Smith is arguably worth ranking a fair amount higher than this. The redshirt senior has 1,438 yards and 25 touchdowns on 233 career carries, and the starting Cowboys running back has averaged 245 carries per year over the last four seasons.
Smith is under the radar thanks to Joe Randle's impressive showing as a true freshman last year, but Smith, too is a talented runner and might actually project to a feature back role better than Randle, who runs a bit upright and is half-running back, half-receiver.
It's difficult to determine what Smith's role will be in the new Houston offense. He was brilliant in limited time last year, running for 160 yards and one touchdown on 15 carries, but he might be a better fit as a pro-style back than as a half-runner/half-receiver back that Dana Holgorsen's crazy spread attack requires. If he can develop as a pass-catcher, Smith is too skilled of a runner to not receive around 10 touches per game, but apparently he left the spring as a probable third back on the team.
