Shows veteran poise in spring game
QBVanderbilt
April 1, 2019
Neal competed eight of his 12 pass attempts at Vanderbilt's spring game, Adam Sparks of the Nashville Tennessean reports.
ANALYSIS
Neal is currently entrenched in a quarterback battle for the right to helm the Commodores' offense, and for his part he looked good at the spring game. He showed the poise in the pocket that would be expected from a guy who played four years at Ball State before coming to Vanderbilt, and he was able to show some mobility on scrambles when the situation arouse. The tough part, however, is that his competition at quarterback, Deuce Wallace, did not partake in the game as recovers from an infection in his right armpit. Without the ability to compare the two, it's tough to say that Neal took a clear, definitive step ahead in the competition, but it's certain that his performance was strong enough that he didn't hurt his chances either.

2016 Fantasy Outlook
Neal is competing with Jack Milas to start at quarterback for Ball State, though Neal is the favorite heading into the fall. Neal showed a dual-threat skill set as a freshman starter last year, running for 399 yards and two touchdown (4.5 YPC) while throwing for 2,276 yards (5.8 YPA), 16 touchdowns and six interceptions. Obviously, the passing efficiency was dreadful, but Neal acquitted himself well given his lack of experience, and his dual-threat background gives him upside if he should progress as a passer.
