Suffers first career loss
January 9, 2019
Tagovailoa completed 22 of 34 passes for 295 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions Monday in Alabama's 44-16 loss to Clemson in the National Championship Game.
The vaunted Clemson pass rush caused plenty of problems for Tagovailoa, who was further hampered by playing on a bum ankle. He threw both of his interceptions in the first half, including one on Alabama's first possession that was returned for a touchdown. Tagovailoa limited his mistakes in the second half, but was unable to engineer any scoring drives as Clemson pitched a shutout in the second half. Though the Heisman runner-up's season ends on a sour note, he'll return to Tuscaloosa as one of the nation's top signal-callers in 2019. He finished his sophomore campaign with 3,966 passing yards and a 43:6 TD:INT to go with 190 rushing yards and five more scores on the ground.
