Heading to SMU
TESMU
January 13, 2021
Calcaterra announced Wednesday via his personal Twitter account that he has committed to SMU as a graduate transfer from Auburn.
ANALYSIS
After having not played since the 2019 season, Calcaterra is set to return to action in 2021 with two years of eligibility. The tight end was a starter for Oklahoma before he temporarily put an end to his football career due to concussions. He had a change of heart and decided late in 2020 to resume playing, ultimately landing with Auburn after leaving Oklahoma with his degree. However, with Auburn dismissing head coach Gus Malzahn following the 2020 season, Calcaterra chose to move on to a new school. He should have a good chance at stepping in as the Mustangs' top tight end in 2021 after totaling 41 receptions for 637 yards and nine touchdowns during his three years at Oklahoma.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2018
2019
With Mark Andrews gone, Calcaterra is primed to step into a bigger role in 2018 and what he showed as a freshman is promising. Having Baker Mayfield as his quarterback didn't hurt, but he deserves credit for catching 10 of 11 targets for 162 yards and three scores. He's got an Andrews-esque advantage where he's too big for safeties and too fast for linebackers. Will his target count balloon to 91 like it did with Andrews in 2017? Unlikely. That doesn't mean Calcaterra can't be a major red zone factor in an offense that'll have no trouble putting up points.
Calcaterra's anticipated breakout following Mark Andrews' departure fell a bit flat, but he was still productive overall. He caught 26 of 43 targets for 396 yards (9.2 YPT) and six touchdowns, but fellow tight end Lee Morris outshined him with more touchdowns and yards. Both are back this season, which is why Calcaterra is outside the top three here. Still, Calcaterra has a starting role in the Oklahoma offense and his speed makes him a Mark Andrews-esque threat down the seam and in the red zone.
