Will compete for starting job
March 25, 2020
Kansas offensive coordinator Brent Dearmon said in December that Kendrick and redshirt senior Thomas MacVittie are the most likely candidates to start at quarterback for the Jayhawks in 2020, Benton Smith of KUSports.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Both signal-callers will have to wait until fall camp to compete for the top job after Kansas cancelled its spring program in light of the coronavirus pandemic. Neither Kendrick, a redshirt junior, nor MacVittie has much of a resume at the collegiate level, as both were buried on the depth chart last season while Carter Stanley and Manny Miles -- both of whom have since exhausted their eligibility -- served as the top two options at quarterback. MacVittie was intercepted on his lone passing attempt while Kendrick didn't record a statistic in 2019, but Kendrick did see more extensive work in 2018. As a sophomore that season, Kendrick completed 11 of 19 attempts for 100 yards and a score and added 47 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries.
