Sumpter announced Sunday via his personal Twitter account that he has committed to join West Virginia as a graduate transfer from Troy.
ANALYSIS
Sumpter was Troy's primary placekicker for each of the past three seasons, converting 39 of 51 field-goal attempts (76.5) and 125 of 125 extra-point tries over that span. He also served as the Trojans' punter in each of those seasons, so he'll be a versatile weapon for the Mountaineers on special teams. Sumpter shouldn't be challenged for the punting job with Josh Growden exhausting his eligibility, but he'll have to beat out incumbent Evan Staley for kicking duties when he joins West Virginia for training camp.
