Struggles in bowl game
December 28, 2019
Russo completed 12 of 20 passes for 128 yards and an interception in Thursday's loss to North Carolina at the Military Bowl.
ANALYSIS
Even with the extra time to prepare for the bowl game, Russo wasn't able to solve the Tar Heels' defense, which held him to only one more yard than his season-low. Although the redshirt junior got off to a fast start with 10 touchdowns in the first three games, he threw only 11 more over the final 10 games to finish the year with 21 scores versus 12 interceptions.

2019 Fantasy Outlook
With Ryquell Armstead leading the offense last season, Russo wasn't asked to do too much, which contributed to a run-of-the-mill fantasy season from the redshirt sophomore quarterback. But now the running back corps doesn't look nearly as lethal, which will likely cause the offense to turn to the pass a little more often. They expanded the play-calling late in the season, but he still only averaged 277.7 yards with a 61.4 completion percentage over the final seven games, and he showed ball control issues with nine interceptions. With teams not having to crowd the box against the run this season, Russo will have a tough time building on his average 2018.
