Heading to Arizona
January 23, 2021
Cruz announced Saturday via his personal Twitter account that he has committed to Arizona, joining the program as a transfer from Washington State.
ANALYSIS
Cruz settled on a school within the Pac-12 just one day after putting his name in the transfer portal. After not appearing in any games as a true freshman in 2019, Cruz saw action in one contest for the Cougars in 2020, completing five of seven passes for 34 yards and a touchdown. With incumbent starter Grant Gunnell leaving Tucson for the transfer portal after the season, Arizona's quarterback job is wide open entering 2021. Assuming he gains eligibility from the NCAA that will allow him to suit up next fall, Cruz will likely be competing with the likes of Will Plummer and Kevin Doyle for the top spot on the depth chart.
