Favorite for starting QB job
June 23, 2020
Olsen will enter Navy's training camp as the favorite to start at quarterback for the Midshipmen in 2020, Bill Wagner of the Capital Gazette reports.
With top signal-caller Malcolm Perry having left for the NFL after amassing at least 1,000 yards on the ground in each of the past three years, Olsen, Perry's top backup in 2019, becomes the next man up to run Navy's triple-option attack. A true freshman last season, Olsen appeared in eight games in relief of Perry, completing two of eight pass attempts for 45 yards, a touchdown and an interception to go with 80 yards and two scores on 34 carries. After Olsen, sophomore Massai Maynor and senior Dalen Morris loom as potential challengers, while head coach Ken Niumatalolo also indicated that wide receiver Chance Warren -- one of the team's best athletes -- could also get the opportunity to audition under center.
