C.J. Holmes

Holmes was dismissed from Notre Dame in January after he was charged with shoplifting a month earlier. A highly regarded prospect from the Class of 2017, Holmes struggled to see the field during his lone season at South Bend, finishing his freshman campaign with eight carries for 32 yards. Due to NCAA rules, Holmes will have to sit out the 2018 season, but will have three years of collegiate eligibility remaining beginning in 2019. While Holmes was in high school, Penn State recruited him as a wide receiver, so it remains unclear if head coach James Franklin intends to keep Holmes in the backfield. If Holmes stays at running back, he'll have a viable path to playing time in 2019 with Mark Allen and Johnathan Thomas set to graduate after the upcoming season.
