Expected back Saturday
Coach Dana Holgorsen said Mathis (ankle) is expected to return Saturday against Texas Tech, Joseph Duarte of the Houston Chronicle reports.
ANALYSIS
Mathis has missed the last two weeks with an ankle injury. He was dropped down to the No. 2 running back on Houston's depth chart in favor of Parker Jenkins, who rushed for three touchdowns last week. If Mathis does suit up, it will be interesting to see the snap counts between the two lead running backs for the Cougars.

2022 Fantasy Outlook
West Virginia boasts one of the best offensive lines in the conference which should help propel Mathis to a career year at West Virginia. Behind one of the Mountaineers' top running backs in school history in Leddie Brown, Mathis had 72 carries for 312 yards to go along with seven catches for 29 yards during the 2021 season. In a Week 13 matchup at Kansas, Mathis showed what he can do with a significant role with 118 yards on 22 carries. He'll look to have many more of those 100-yard rushing performances in a feature role and will also receive significant help from a huge upgrade in West Virginia's passing game. JT Daniels comes over from Georgia to reunite with his former offensive coordinator Graham Harrell.
