Wootton (pectoral) announced his retirement Tuesday, ESPN's Adam Caplan reports.
ANALYSIS
A 2010 fourth-round selection out of Northwestern, Wootton spent his first four years with the Bears before joining the Vikings in 2014. He then signed with the Lions in 2015, but missed the entire season after suffering a torn pectoral during the preseason. He'll retire at the age of 29 with 12 sacks and 86 tackles in 60 games.

Wootton, who spent his first four seasons with the Bears, will likely serve as Minnesota's top backup at defensive end. Wootton registered just four sacks in 16 games (15 starts) last season.
After an unproductive first two seasons with the Bears, Wootton turned the corner in Year 3, recording seven sacks and accumulating 27 tackles. He's now locked into a starting role opposite Julius Peppers and will need to continue to produce to earn another deal with his rookie contract set to expire after this season.
In his two seasons with the Bears, Wootton has struggled mightily to stay on the field. With hoovering health concerns and the addition of rookie Shea McClellin, Wootton's 2012 season could be of the make or break variety.
Wootton will still be known as the guy who ended Brett Favre's career, but outside of that he wasn't very productive in his limited amount of playing time. The Bears are hoping Wootton can step it up in 2011, to help avert double teams away from Julius Peppers.
Wootton, the 109th pick in the 2010 NFL draft, likely would have been a first or second round selection had it not been for a 2008 ACL tear that limited his 2009 production. Wootton is unlikely to crack the starting lineup this season, but if he can return to his pre-injury form he should see some time rotating in opposite Julius Peppers.
