The Titans released Fowler on Tuesday, Jim Wyatt of the Titans' official site reports.

ANALYSIS
Fowler signed with the Titans in late October, though he was inactive for Sunday's game against the Patriots. The 28-year-old has spent the last three seasons with Tennessee, and it wouldn't be a surprise if he ends up joining the Titans' practice squad.

The Titans were hoping to get more than a traditional fullback when they drafted Fowler in the fourth round of the 2015 draft, but he has failed to expand his impact beyond blocking. While his ability to flex out as a tight end near the goal line led to seven receiving touchdowns in Fowler's last two years at Alabama, he has found the end zone just twice in 32 games as a pro. Tennessee's power running style should lead to plenty of playing time for the fullback, but don't expect any more production from Fowler than is standard for the position.

There were talks of moving Fowler around the formation after the 2015 fourth-rounder demonstrated plenty of versatility at Alabama, but he ended up settling mostly for a traditional fullback role. Perhaps his workload expands a bit in year two, but don’t expect a massive increase from the 57 total yards and two touchdowns he managed as a rookie.

Fowler is more than just your average fullback. The rookie played some tight end and running back at Alabama, and his seven touchdowns on 19 receptions in college show that he can be a threat near the goal line.
