Todd Bouman

Bouman will compete with rookie free-agent Paul Smith for the Jags' third-string quarterback job in 2008. With David Garrard and Cleo Lemon firmly entrenched ahead of him, Bouman will probably not see any playing time in 2008.

Bouman took over for a struggling Aaron Brooks in the final three games of 2005, but managed just two touchdowns against six interceptions in that span. With the Saints offseason acquisiting of Drew Brees, Bouman will return to the bench, but he will likely be the first one the Saints call upon if Brees' surgically-repaired shoulder forces him out of any games.

Bouman is the number 2 QB in New Orleans and has a pro arm. The question remains as to whether he could sustain a team`s offense for an extended period of time. The Saints hope that they won`t need to find out in 2005.

Bouman will enter the year as the primary backup to Aaron Brooks. Bouman doesn't expect to see much playing time, albeit, Brooks has not missed a game since the 2000 season; but he is very capable of stepping into the starting role if needed. Historically, Bouman has been a good decision maker with an adequate arm strength and decent size. He has a quick release and can elude the pass rush. On the other side of the coin, he has been prone to forcing throws and isn't very accurate. Bouman made 4 cameo appearances last year, completing 7 of 13 passes for 81 yards, a lone touchdown and no interceptions.
